Tigers Strike Down Thunder

January 21st, 2010 · No Comments · Boys Basketball, Boys Game Summary

End of the day, Hurricane Coach Gordon Dotson won a big one, loss a big one. The loss came earlier in the day when he dropped off his namesake, Gordon Dotson IV, in Provo as he begins his LDS Church mission to Chile. Then he travels down I-15 and gets even on the day, picking up a classic win 45-42 against Desert Hills.

The win connects Hurricane and DH together at the top rung of the Region 9 ladder, both teams with a 4-1 mark, but winning in the Thunder Dome was extra special for le Tigres. “With them beating us in football, its become one of the better rivalries in the Region,” stated Tiger star Zach Sorenson, who ended the night with 18 points.

Hurricane started out on fire going up 9-2 in the opening period before the Thunder struck back, closing the score at 11-9 after one. DH got a big lift from Jon Bodnar. The 6′7″ reserve player got thrown into the fire when star Bo Buchanan underwent surgery on his leg. Bodnar looked like he belong with the varsity group, scoring 12 points and playing solid defense on the lengthy Tiger team.

DH got off to their biggest lead of the game early in the third quarter 25-20 before Anderson Rich and Sorenson took over, scoring six straight points and attempting to quiet down the raucous crowd. The dynamic duo took over in the final period as well, both nailing clutch free throws in the final minute of the game to secure the Tiger win. For more click here and here.
