RICE-ECCLES STADIUM - Davis and Hurricane left the sweet new turf at the University of Utah with a very bitter taste. Both teams played well enough to win, but both ended their season with a second place trophy.

For Hurricane, in certainly the game of the day, defense was the main menu with just three field goals scored from two of the most powerful offensive teams in the state. Then the final minute produced a Tim Long TD run to give Hurricane their first lead of the game with just :46 seconds left in the game, 10-6.

But Juan Diego marched 80 yards in just four plays, capping off the stunning comeback with a 31-yard ”Hail Mary” pass from Cody Stevenson to Bruce Nix in a stunning ending to a remarkable game. For the second year in a row, Juan Diego beat the Tigers for the state championship on the last play of the game. In 2008, a last second field goal, 2009 Nix put the nix to the first Hurricane title since the late 1940’s.

Davis had a 10-point lead late into the third quarter with a 24-14 edge, but Bingham showed that the fourth quarter belonged to them scoring 14 points in the final period to take their second title of the decade, defeating Davis 35-24.

Bingham quarterback Stefan Cantwell scored four touchdowns and rushed for 168 yards in the game to secure the win over the Darts.
