Tigers Win Region 9 Title

February 12th, 2009 · No Comments · Boys Basketball, Boys Game Summary

CEDAR - If you have ever had a hard time starting a car when everyone else is flying by you, then you understand how the Cedar Redmen felt Wednesday evening. They couldn’t get their car in gear as Hurricane roared past them to win the Region 9 title with a dominating 60-31 win.

Cedar was 1-13 in the first quarter from the field and 0-4 from the free throw line as Hurricane had a 8-0 shutout until the last seconds of the opening period.  Cedar came as close as 9-8 at one point, but then quick bursts by Ryan Smith, Tommy Hirschi and Cory Hinton gave Hurricane the comfortable lead again.

The Tigers, who haven’t lost since late December, negated any potential comeback in the second half as Gordie Dotson nailed back to back 3-pointers and the surprising route was on. Perhaps even more impressively, Hurricane played swarming defense as they shut down star Joel Einfeldt for the second time this season. Einfeldt had just one field goal and a pair of free throws on the night.

Hurricane was led by Dotson’s 14 points. Hinton added 10 for the TIgers, now 15-3 on the year and 10-0 in Region 9 play.
