SUU Women’s Basketball Coach Steve Hodson passed away last night after a battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his wife Suzy, currently teaching at CVHS, and his daughters Annie, Summer and Kristy as well as five grandchildren. He died from the effects of multiple cell myeloma cancer.
He was the eighth head coach of the Southern Utah University women’s basketball team. He did not coach the first game of the season on Saturday against Dixie State.
He was a former basketball coach for the Canyon View High School Falcons and the Cedar High School Redmen where he won four 3A state titles. He was the athletic director for nine years. He is one of only three coaches to win both boys and girls Utah basketball titles. He was twice voted the 3A Coach of the Year.
From 1987-1991 he served as an assistant men’s basketball coach to Neil Roberts at Southern Utah University.
Steve played basketball for SUU and graduated with a degree in Physical Education in 1978.
A Memorial Fund account has been setup at State Bank of Southern Utah.

Coach Hodson was one of the really classy guys in the coaching fraternity. He was always gracious in losing and winning. I consider it a great loss to not have Coach “Hod” on the sidelines. My condolences to his wife and family.
